Globe Valves

Globe valves are still the right answer where you need controlled shut-off and throttling, especially on steam and higher-duty services.

Key points
  • SDNR is a standard ask on steam and condensate lines.
  • Screwed, flanged and Class 800 options cover very different jobs.
  • Bellows sealed matters where leakage control is tight.
  • Bronze, cast iron, cast steel and forged steel all have their place.
  • End connection and pressure class need checking early.

Overview
This collection covers globe valves for isolation and regulation duties across steam, condensate and general industrial pipework. Sorted by size, end connection, material and subtype.

Applications
Used on steam mains, condensate return, plant services and higher-pressure line work where a plain shut-off valve is not enough. They suit replacement work where the existing valve pattern, pressure class and end connection need to be matched properly.

Materials / Types
Bronze is common on smaller screwed steam duties. Cast iron and cast steel suit larger flanged installations where the system spec allows them. Stainless steel is used where corrosion or media compatibility drives the choice. SDNR patterns are a staple on steam service, while bellows sealed valves suit duties where stem leakage is not acceptable. Angle pattern valves help where the pipe layout requires a change in direction built into the valve.

Selection Notes
Start with the connection: BSP/BSPP, NPT, socket weld, flanged PN16, ANSI 150/300 or Class 800 where stocked. Then match the body material and subtype to the duty. On steam work, SDNR and pressure rating need checking before anything else.
