Gate Valves

Gate valves are used for isolation on water, HVAC, fire protection and general industrial pipework. Gate valves are typically specified where low flow resistance, dependable shut-off and easy maintenance are required, particularly on larger diameter systems and plant installations.

  • Specified by size, from smaller screwed/BSP connections through to larger DN flanged systems.
  • Commonly used on PN16 pipework across commercial and industrial water services.
  • Available in a range of materials including, ductile iron, brass, stainless steel, DZR and many more options to suit medium and site conditions.
  • WRAS-approved options available for potable water applications.
  • Choice of resilient-seated or metal-seated designs depending on service requirements.

Overview
We have a large selection of gate valves to meet all requirements. These vary by size, connection and pressure rating. Our options cover screwed/BSP valves for smaller service pipework and flanged PN16 patterns for larger distribution systems.

Applications
Gate valves are used across plantrooms, commercial water systems, utility services and general industrial pipework. They are best suited to on/off isolation, where the valve is left fully open or fully closed, rather than used for throttling or flow control.

Materials / Types
Ductile iron is the standard choice for most commercial installations due to its strength and cost efficiency. Cast iron, stainless steel and brass options are also used depending on system requirements. Resilient seated (soft seated) designs are typically specified for clean water duties and tighter shut-off, while metal seated valves are used where higher temperatures or more demanding conditions apply.

Selection Notes
Line size and connection type are the starting point, such as flanged PN16 or screwed/BSP. Then check pressure rating, material compatibility and any approval requirements. WRAS approval is required for potable water systems. For replacement work, matching face-to-face dimensions and existing flange drilling or thread type will help avoid installation issues on site.
